Transfer News: Manchester United rival Arsenal for AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham
According to Italian publication Il Messaggero [Print Edition] (h/t The Sun), Manchester United will battle it out with Arsenal for the services of AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham in the summer transfer window. He has been sensational in Serie A this season and has quickly adapted to life in Italy after leaving Chelsea last summer.
Abraham has been in hot form this campaign and has become a spearhead in the Roma attack under Jose Mourinho. As a result, he has attracted interest from Man United and the Gunners, as both of them are contemplating their options to raid the Italians for the ace forward. Both Premier League teams are searching the market for a new centre-forward prompting them to take their current stance.
The Red Devils are looking to bring the Englishman to Old Trafford to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. Mikel Arteta’s side were linked with the Serie A star the previous summer, and it seems that they have maintained their interest in him. They require a striker addition following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona in January.
Man Utd to sign Abraham?
There is an obvious need to add a striker to our squad at the end of this term. After all, Edinson Cavani will become a free agent this summer and he is set to depart for pastures new. That means the Manchester club would have to sign a centre-forward anyway regardless of Ronaldo’s future prospects.
Cristiano is past his best, and we need to look at adequate replacements for him moving forward. Abraham is a fine choice indeed as he has scored 23 goals alongside four assists this campaign from 40 appearances across all competitions.
Not to mention, Abraham already has the experience of playing in the Premier League and in fact impressing during his time at Stamford Bridge. As such, signing the 24-year-old to boost our attack next season would be a great decision on the board’s part.
Our other options who can play in a similar position are not exactly reliable and are going through a rough phase. Mason Greenwood’s and Anthony Martial’s future are in uncertain waters, whereas Marcus Rashford has been poor this season.

We need someone who can be counted on to lead us from the front as we look to rebuild the squad this summer. Abraham can certainly be that man given his talent profile and age. However, we must be wary of the North Londoners who already have a strong project under Arteta.
Champions League football could hand us an edge in the transfer race but Arsenal are ahead of us in the race for a top-four finish this season. Let’s hope that the team can turn things around and achieve CL qualification for the next term, giving us a fighting chance of landing the English international.
