Manchester United transfer target and Benfica ace Darwin Nunez changes agent to facilitate big move
According to Portuguese outlet Record (h/t Daily Star), SL Benfica ace Darwin Nunez has changed his agent in recent weeks to ensure that he gets a dream move to one of the Manchester clubs, in a transfer boost for Manchester United.
Nunez has only been at Benfica for nearly two years, but in his short time at the club, he has impressed everyone with his abilities to lead the line for the team and regularly find the back of the net across the Premeira Liga and UEFA Champions League.
With United chasing a youngster striker to take on the mantle from veterans Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani in the coming years, there can be no surprise that they are monitoring Nunez, who is making waves despite only being 22. He currently has 26 goals in all competitions this term for the Eagles.
Ronaldo is 37 years old and probably entering the twilight years of his playing career, while 35-year-old Cavani has been plagued by injuries this season and has barely made any starts for the team. Given their situation, an eye for the future needs to be kept, and Nunez seems to fit the bill.
Manchester City competition
However, any attempts by United to secure the services of the Benfica striker will see them compete with city rivals Manchester City, who are also one of the player’s clubs to secure a dream move to. The Cityzens currently only have Gabriel Jesus as their natural number nine.
The Uruguayan forward is said to be looking for a starting spot in a side that’s a Champions League regular after impressing this season both in Portugal and in Europe. If that is the case, then as things stand, City may be favourites to land him as they are currently leading the Premier League table while United are in sixth position.
A striker in the summer is almost a necessity rather than a priority for United, given how underwhelming we have been in front of goal all season long. Ronaldo, of all people, has looked low on confidence at times and failed to finish off chances, which puts in perspective the goalscoring troubles we have had.
Mason Greenwood’s suspension and Anthony Martial’s loan spell to Sevilla have seen us be short on alternative striker options this term, while Marcus Rashford has failed to hit the usual heights we expect from him.

Nunez is apparently looking for a side that is a Champions League regular which could work in City’s favour as things stand in the PL table, but at United, he could have a chance to be a regular in the starting XI and lead the line for years to come if he keeps up his regular form.
Having a chance to move one of the biggest clubs in the world and playing in front a raucous Old Trafford crowd is something few players say no to, and the Red Devils will hope that this is exactly what happens if and when they come calling for the Uruguayan ace.
