Transfer News: Manchester United target Everton ace Richarlison to replace Edinson Cavani in the summer
According to Goal Brazil (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are monitoring Everton striker Richarlison in an attempt to replace veteran ace Edinson Cavani at the end of the season.
Cavani moved to United as a free agent in 2020 once his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired, and the forward is expected to leave Manchester in the summer when his deal with the Red Devils runs out at the end of the current campaign.
This leaves us with Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford as our only real forward options ahead of the new season. Anthony Martial is also expected back at the club in the summer when his loan spell at Sevilla ends, but it is not yet known what the future holds for him at Old Trafford.
With Ronaldo turning 38 by the end of next season, and Rashford looking out of form in front of goal, it is not known how long either of them will continue to regularly lead the line at Old Trafford, so a goalscoring forward needs to be made a priority in the summer when the transfer window opens.
Cavani replacement
United’s interest in Richarlison is not new, with the club keeping tabs on the 24-year-old for the last two seasons due to his goalscoring record at Everton. Ever since moving to Goodison Park in 2018, the Brazilian has been the face of most of their goals scored and has become a fan favourite at Merseyside.
Given the Toffees’ potential relegation at the end of the season, the Red Devils are said to be assessing his situation at Everton in the event he opts for a move away in the summer and wants to continue playing in the Premier League.
With Everton sitting one place above the relegation zone, despite playing two games less, they stand a realistic chance of moving to the Championship after a poor season. Frank Lampard has been brought in to steady the ship after a disastrous campaign under Rafa Benitez, but only time will tell if the Englishman can save them from being relegated.
United loanee Donny van de Beek is also at the club to help them escape the drop and finish the season by staying in the top-flight, and the Dutchman will have seen how talented Richarlison is at close quarters.

The Brazilian’s stock has really risen at Goodison Park, becoming an international star for his national team and establishing himself among an extremely talented forward line that the Selecaos have to choose from.
At 24, he has a bright future ahead of him and seems ready to take the next step of making a name for himself on a global scale. United offer him the opportunity to do so and play alongside some world-class players, so we can hope that Richarlison takes up the offer if the Red Devils come calling for him in the summer.
