Fabrizio Romano: Paulo Dybala prepares to ditch Juventus and open talks for a free transfer amid Manchester United links
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Express), Paulo Dybala is set to leave Juventus as a free agent in the summer after talks regarding a new contract broke down, which will give Manchester United a boost in their attempts to sign him.
United have been short of goals this season, despite boasting names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani. With both strikers in their late 30s and not getting any younger, the Manchester side needs a younger replacement soon.
Dybala’s current situation in Turin is sure to interest them, with the forward upset with the new conditions proposed by Juve after they had reached a verbal agreement in October last year over a new deal.
Romano said that the Argentine is now ready to open talks with new clubs over a move at the end of the season. Given the player’s impressive displays in Italy over the past several years, snapping him up for free would be a dream come true for any top side that is interested in him.
Manchester United interest for Dybala
Despite having a poor time in front of goal last season, Dybala has returned this season with a bang, racking up eight goals and five assists in 21 Serie A matches this time around. Numbers like these are missing from most of United’s frontmen this term, which makes the Argentina international an attractive option in the summer to snap up for free.
However, the club can expect competition from other Premier League teams like Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, who have also been linked to the 28-year-old. Spurs director Fabio Paratici is someone the forward is familiar with, with the Italian executive working at Juve prior to his England move.
Apart from Ronaldo and Cavani, United have also been let down by Marcus Rashford this season, who has looked terribly out of form. In the Manchester derby earlier this month, despite missing our veteran strike duo, the Englishman was overlooked to lead the line despite having done the job for the club before.
Cavani has also been plagued by injury issues this season, barely starting any games in 2022. This has led to all the goalscoring duties falling on Ronaldo, but the Portuguese superstar has also gone through a goal drought recently and not been consistent enough in front of the net.

Dybala presents a perfect opportunity for the Old Trafford side to exploit, given that the player is available for free and is arguably in the prime years of his playing career. Having already played alongside Ronaldo at Juventus, the Argentine could possibly link up with him again in England.
Romano’s update will certainly have sent other clubs on red alert about Dybala’s situation, and there is sure to be a long queue to sign the player in the summer. Only time will tell if we end up leading the race to snap him up or continue to just be linked with him ahead of the new campaign.
