Inter Milan target Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani to replace forward Alexis Sanchez
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Inter Milan have identified Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani to replace Alexis Sanchez at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium at the end of the season.
Cavani moved to United in 2020 on a free transfer after spending years in France with Paris Saint-Germain, adding his vast experience and energy to a side that was seeking a world-class striker to lead the line for them.
Although a fan favourite in Manchester, the striker has been plagued by injuries this term and has barely featured. With his current deal at Old Trafford running out in the summer, he is set to leave the club as a free agent soon.
Inter Milan are said to be interested in the Uruguayan’s services next season, as they look to replace Sanchez in the summer. The Chilean forward is believed to be on his way out of the club in the coming months.
Physical presence wanted
Despite attracting plenty of interest from LaLiga, Cavani could be set for a move to the Nerazzurri as the Italian side are looking to sign an experienced forward to bolster their attack. At 35, the ex-Napoli man has plenty of footballing experience in his locker, along with the familiarity of playing in Serie A.
The Italian champions are said to want a physical presence up front for the team- someone with a similar style to current forward Edin Dzeko. However, their endeavours to sign a player of this quality involve doing so without a transfer fee to be paid for their services.
Sanchez, on the other hand, is a name familiar to United fans after the Red Devils and Arsenal were involved in a transfer swap that involved both him and Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the opposite way in 2018.
The Chilean was a big name for the Gunners and was consistently their best player for years, but could not replicate that form in Manchester. Mkhitaryan too could not impress at the Emirates Stadium, and both players went to Italy to revive their careers.

Sanchez has done great at Inter, winning the Serie A last year and then firing them to a Supercoppa Italiana win in 2022 to make sure he leaves the club on a good note this summer – if at all, he does. The Chilean is not getting any younger at 33 but his supposed replacement, Cavani, is two years older than him.
The ex-Palermo and Napoli hitman has hardly featured for the Red Devils this season, with injury problems keeping him out for a majority of games. If Inter do sign him for free ahead of the new season, they need to be wary of the Uruguay international’s injury issues if they expect him to be a physical presence up top for them.
