Manchester United face transfer blow as Ajax Amsterdam star Ryan Gravenberch open to joining Bayern Munich
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Ajax Amsterdam star Ryan Gravenberch is open to joining Bayern Munich at the end of the season, which is a blow to Manchester United who have been linked with him (h/t Express).
The teenager has become a regular for the Dutch side this season, putting in some wonderful shifts in the middle of the park as Ajax sit on top of the Eredivisie table currently. His performances seem to have caught the eye of a few European clubs, including Bayern and United.
United especially are in need of reinforcements ahead of the new season, given how poor our current midfielders have been this campaign. For years now, we have suffered due to a weak midfield, but Gravenberch could solve our problem in the long term.
However, Romano has reported that discussions between Bayern’s Oliver Kahn and the players’ agent Mino Raiola have taken place ahead of a potential move in the summer. In good news for the Red Devils, nothing advanced has occurred in a possible move.
Gravenberch blow for PL giants
Gravenberch will find himself entering the final year of his Ajax deal in the summer, and the club are said to be eyeing a sale at the end of the current season so they do not risk losing him for free next year. The Dutchman is the latest in a long line of impressive academy products to be looking for the next big step in their career.
United were already said to be battling bitter rivals Liverpool in the race to convince the midfielder to move to England, but it seems that our biggest competition might be Bayern, who seem to already have made moves to secure Gravenberch’s services this summer. We could use a young, dynamic midfielder like him in our team in all honesty- especially after our string of inconsistent results under Ralf Rangnick.
Only 19 years of age, such is the midfielder’s talent that he has racked up interest from clubs like Bayern, Liverpool, and United within just a few years of making his senior debut. He has already been part of two league-winning sides, so the player would bring that experience along with him to a possible new side in the summer.
Not just at club level, but his age has not stopped him from impressing on the international circuit either, having already picked up a senior cap last year for the Netherlands. His stock in European football has kept on rising in the past few years, and a move to a bigger club at the end of the season would increase his stock even further.

Although Bayern look to be leading the race to sign him, there have only been initial talks between the player’s agent and the club. It still gives hope to United fans about snatching him away from the German club’s clutches in the summer, but Gravenberch’s apparent willingness to join them will be worrisome.
With still a few months to go before the transfer window opens, only time will tell if the player changes his mind about swapping Holland for Germany, especially since his manager Erik ten Hag has also been linked to United in the summer.
