Transfer News: Leeds United battle Southampton to sign Manchester United youngster James Garner
According to The Sun, Leeds United will face off against Southampton to secure the signature of Manchester United youngster James Garner in the summer transfer window. He is currently out on loan at Nottingham Forest and has been excellent throughout this season.
Leeds have been monitoring Garner since he was loaned out to Forest at the start of the 2021-22 season. They have plans to make midfield additions next summer if they manage to stay in the Premier League. They are looking at potential talents at this instant and could put in a bid to sign him permanently at the end of this term.
The Saints are in the fray as they look to add more quality to back Ralph Hasenhuttl. The 20-year-old’s loan club have plans to keep him with them for longer, but they would need to achieve promotion to the English top-flight to meet those desires. This update paves the way for an interesting summer regarding the midfielder’s future prospects.
Reject all approaches!
The Manchester club must not entertain any offers from others where they would end up losing the Englishman permanently in the future. The defensive midfielder has been sensational in the Championship this campaign and is seemingly one of the rising talents among our youngsters.
We cannot afford to lose the Red Devils loanee, considering the need to reinforce our midfield options. Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger, whereas Fred and Scott McTominay are not suitable to be played as pivots due to their lack of tactical discipline. Garner can definitely help us under the circumstances, with him being keen on having a career at Old Trafford.
As such, we should only entertain loan approaches for the 20-year-old from other clubs. Who knows, maybe our next boss could even give the Man United starlet a spot in the first team set-up next season. Hence, it is good to know that the board wants him to go out on loan in an ideal situation despite expectations to receive “serious” proposals. A temporary move is also favoured by his camp as well at this moment.

As such, it would be best for him to take the next step to the Premier League in a team where he would not face too much pressure. That would help him get adjusted to the raised intensity and challenge of the English top flight.
Fortunately for us, the Whites could agree to a loan move as well since it would be in the best interest of all parties. A loan move to Elland Road or Hasehuttl’s side would be ideal for us, taking all factors into account. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
