Manchester United add Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl to manager shortlist
According to The Mirror, Manchester United have decided to add Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl to their managerial shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window. He has been pivotal to the Saints’ rise in recent years following the decline they had suffered prior to his appointment.
Hasenhuttl has gained the approval of Man United’s football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher after achieving two impressive draws in the Premier League against the champions and current league leaders Manchester City. The Austrian was eventually added to the shortlist as a result of his impressive tenure with the Hampshire based club.
Ralf Rangnick is the current manager only on an interim basis and is in line to take over a behind the scenes role at the end of this term. Rangnick knows about Hasenhuttl’s qualities since they have worked together at RB Leipzig before. Who knows, maybe that could help the Saints coach to receive a recommendation from the Red Devils interim boss.
Solid choice
The 54-year-old is certainly a good option to consider for the job looking at how he has fared at St. Mary’s Stadium over the past few years. He seems ready to take a bigger role and might gladly accept an offer from the Manchester club if they approach him next summer.
The Austrian coach is ambitious and has also attracted interest from several other sides other than us. That could prove to be troublesome if we decide to go down the route to appoint him as the next manager. However, he would only be considered should we fail to land any of our top choices.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag of Ajax Amsterdam are the leading contenders for the managerial job right now. We are expected to pursue them initially but will only look elsewhere if our attempts do not end up being successful.

Fortunately, though, Hasenhuttl is ready to wait and see how the situation develops regarding our pursuit to appoint Ten Hag and Pochettino. With time running out as we near the summer transfer window, we must put an end to this managerial uncertainty at the earliest so that a smooth transition can be made once this term ends.
After all, we need the new manager to assess the current squad and give appropriate instructions for the club to bring in the necessary reinforcements. Whether Hasenhuttl would be the man to lead us forward or not would only be known in due time.
