Transfer News: Barcelona want Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves amidst Manchester United links
According to transfer news on Daily Mail, Barcelona are in talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves who is also on the radar of Manchester United. Premier League rivals Arsenal are also thought to be admirers of the Portuguese playmaker.
The 24-year-old has become a dependable asset for Wolves in recent seasons, cementing his place in their starting lineup. The Portuguese professional footballer has played 203 matches across all competitions for the Wanderers to date. During that time he has scored 23 goals and provided 11 assists for the club.
His exploits have attracted interest from the Premier League but the latest developments hint to the act that the Catalan giants would be interested in securing his services. The Spanish club already has another Wolves star Adama Traore on loan who has been exceptional ever since making the switch to Camp Nou this campaign.
Does Manchester United need fresh legs at the moment?
The Mancunian club have dominated a lot of possession in their last few fixtures but have struggled to break down opposing defences with their current personnel. The Red side of Manchester has also found it difficult to assert their position in the middle of the park on quite a few occasions this campaign.
A player like Neves could not only help pull the strings from the middle of the park but his defensive abilities and technical prowess make him a much more rounded footballer. Despite all of these positives, one is forced to think whether or not the Old Trafford outfit really needs his services at the moment.
The Manchester-based club already have the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred who are the preferred options in the double pivot that is usually deployed by the Red Devils. Whilst the former has had his own issues with injuries in recent times, the latter has grown into prominence ever since Rangnick has arrived at the club.
Manchester United also have the option of Donny van de Beek, who has shown that he is more than capable of being deployed in a deeper position in the middle of the pitch in his current loan spell at Everton.
Whilst the former FC Porto player’s experience in the PL could be a big boost, the supposed interest from other top clubs means that the Portuguese international could come with a hefty price tag. In such circumstances, the club could do better to target a young striker in the summer to replace the ageing Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani as opposed to adding another midfielder right now.
