Borussia Dortmund give worrying injury update on Manchester United target Erling Haaland
According to Manchester Evening News, Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose said that Manchester United target Erling Haaland is still facing injury problems and may not be fit for a short while, which will worry the Red Devils due to their interest in securing the striker’s services in the summer.
The Manchester club’s need for a striker is not news for anyone watching their games, with the current forwards available in the side not able to help the team score more goals and convincingly finish off games. A signing like Haaland in the summer may solve this problem next season.
Rose said that Haaland still continues to have injury issues in Germany, with the player not comfortable enough in his movements to make a return to action. This will surely be a worrying sign for Man United.
“Erling continues to have [injury] problems. He doesn’t feel free. He still doesn’t feel comfortable in his movements.”
The Red Devils currently have their own forward’s injury issues to worry about, with Edinson Cavani out of action for the past few games. The Uruguayan has barely featured for the side this season, and 2022 in particular has hardly seen a full appearance from the striker.
“Few more matches”
While Cavani’s recovery from injury could possibly be down to his age, the same may not apply to Haaland. This is the 21-year-old’s fourth injury this term, missing a total of 89 days of action from the first team.
Dortmund have been robbed of nearly 3 months of Haaland action in their squad, and this could stretch for a longer period as Rose said that the club were not willing to take a risk with the striker as no party wants an injury relapse.
“What we don’t want is to cause a relapse. Neither does he. We don’t want to take risks with his health. I have to be honest: it may take him a few more matches.”
Cavani’s injury issues aside, United’s other attacking option up front is 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo. At his age, it is unclear how long he can last at the top, despite still being at his physical best as he has started nearly all of the club’s games this season.
Two strikers in their late 30s cannot be how the Old Trafford side are planning to win trophies next season. To add to this, Anthony Martial is out of form in England at the moment, which is why the side have sent him on loan to Sevilla until the summer in the hopes that the Frenchman rediscovers his form.

A young striker who can lead the line for the side for years to come is a necessity rather than a priority, and there is no doubt that United will be linked to some of the world’s top young strikers. Haaland is arguably at the top of the list, but his recent injury worries may make the club think twice about whether he is worth the money they will need to part with.
The Norwegian’s talent is not a question at all, having scored 80 goals in 79 appearances for Dortmund. However, the Red Devils know just how frustrating it is to have a striker sit out on the sidelines when the side desperately needs a goal from their Cavani experience. The club will need to have a long, hard think about this conundrum before the summer if they are to make a move for Haaland.
