Manchester United target Erling Haaland’s wage demands and transfer fees revealed
According to the Mirror (h/t Express), Borussia Dortmund striker and Manchester United target Erling Haaland will demand high wages and interested clubs will need to fork out a massive pay package to afford the forward in the summer.
Haaland moved to Dortmund in 2020 from RB Salzburg and has ripped it up in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons as he has proven himself to be a highly talented goalscorer, despite being only 21 years old.
For a talent like this, it is said that any club looking to sign him will need to shell out a full package of £213m in total, including wages, to prise the Norwegian away from Dortmund’s grasp ahead of the new campaign.
Both Manchester clubs are keen to snap up the Norway striker, as United and City are short of strikers at the moment. While Man United are looking for a long-term option to replace their ageing forwards, Man City are currently operating only with Gabriel Jesus at their disposal.
Earning more than Ronaldo
Despite the massive package that clubs will need to prepare to afford the Dortmund man, both City and United have deep pockets to fork out the amount. This makes both clubs ideal destinations over other clubs for Haaland, apart from their need for a starting striker.
While Haaland’s release clause at his current club is £63m, it is his reported astronomical wage demands that makes him almost impossible to afford for any club. His agent Mino Raiola is seeking deals that sees the player pocket £30m annually. In comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo earns £26m a year.
For a 21-year-old, these are amounts unheard of before in football. Superstars in the game like Ronaldo are set to earn less than what Haaland’s next club could pay him for his services. In the event United sign him in the summer, then they would face a situation where they pay huge amounts per season to both Ronaldo and Haaland.
Man United, however, may not be able to break the bank for the Norway international if it means they get to sign a striker who could lead the line for many years to come, given the forward’s young age. With talent and goalscoring ability like his, the Red Devils would consider him justifying his fees for every goal he scores.

The Old Trafford are desperately short of goals at the moment, even recently drawing to Watford in a 0-0 result at home. Despite multiple chances being created, a finisher is lacking at the club. A star like Haaland would be expected to jump at these chances and score goals to help the club.
The summer will definitely prove to be an interesting time for United, as they look to bolster their squad with new signings and also welcome a new permanent manager. Whoever that may be, they will sure to be starting Haaland every game because of his reputation for goals.
