Manchester United target Erling Haaland will decide his future soon, claims Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke

As per the Daily Mail, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said that Manchester United target Erling Haaland will take a call on his future with the Bundesliga club soon, as the race for the highly talented striker heats up towards the end of the season.

Haaland has proven to be a revelation since his move from RB Salzburg to Dortmund in 2020, setting the German top-flight on fire by bullying opposition defences and scoring a steady stream of goals. Only 21, there is no telling where the striker can reach if he continues this form.

Watzke said that even if the forward decides to leave the club in the summer, Dortmund were confident of replacing him with another quality striker, as they have done in the past after losing Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“If he decides to leave, we will deal with it the way we always have. We have lost a few goal scorers in the past like Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and we will find someone new again.”

However, United will have to battle several top clubs in the form of Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer to secure the services of the Norwegian. It will not be an easy route to sign Haaland, but the striker first has to make a decision regarding Dortmund soon.

Haaland’s future clear soon

The Red Devils are in need of a striker to lead the line for them in the next few years, as they currently only have 35-year-old Edinson Cavani and 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo up front to rely on. A young gun is needed for the future, and 21-year-old Haaland would make a fine addition to our side.

However, all dreams about the Norway international lining up for United will need to take a backseat for the moment until the striker decides on his Dortmund future, which could be very soon as confirmed by Watzke.

“It will certainly be resolved in the next few weeks, maybe a month, maybe six weeks.”

The centre-forward position is perhaps an important area that United would need to address soon as they look to shape up for the future and bring in a long-term option to replace Cavani and Ronaldo. The veterans have done their bit for the club, but it may be time to usher in a younger era to take on the responsibility of scoring the side’s goals.

Haaland will not come cheap either, as his contract includes a release clause that allows him to leave for £68m in the summer. Given his quality, that may even seem like a reasonable price, but it is by no means a small amount.

More Manchester United News

The former Salzburg player has scored 16 times in just 14 Bundesliga appearances this season and could have added more if not for an injury that is keeping him out on the sidelines at the moment. With Dortmund knocked out of the Europa League last night, it will be interesting to see where the future lies for the striker.

United could really benefit from the Norwegian’s arrival, considering that we are struggling to score goals at the minute. Despite multiple chances being created, there seems to be no one at the end of these opportunities. Haaland is the perfect option in that regard for the Red Devils, and we can hope that the club manages to sign him in the summer if the player decides to leave Dortmund.
