Transfer News: Manchester United are thought to have entered the race to sign Lautaro Martinez
According to transfer news on Calciomercato via Fichajes (h/t Barca News), Manchester United have joined the race to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez. The 24-year-old has also been linked to Barcelona in recent times.
The Argentine professional footballer has made quite the mark with his performances for the Nerazzurri. He has already scored 12 goals and provided two assists in 33 matches across all competitions for the Serie A club this season.
He played a pivotal role along with former strike partner Romelu Lukaku in helping Inter Milan win their first Scudetto in a span of 11 years. These exploits have seen him attract a lot of attention both on and off the field. At 24, Martinez still has a lot to offer and could help build a great attacking foundation for the future at Old Trafford if he continues on the same trajectory.
Manchester United and revitalising the attacking department
On paper, the Red Devils have the perfect blend of youth and experience in their forward lineup. Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani bring a sense of maturity and composure whereas the likes of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga bring that youthful burst of energy.
That being said, this Manchester United side has struggled to score goals on a consistent basis and the likes of Cavani and Ronaldo have found it difficult at times to adapt to the new and intense system that is being adopted by interim manager Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford.
The former PSG striker’s current contract with the club ends in the summer and it is believed that he has already thought about his next footballing destination. While Anthony Martial is only 26 and could offer a lot, the striker has struggled to live up to the potential that he showcased with AS Monaco.
He is currently on loan to Sevilla and his relationship with the current interim manager has been precarious, to say the least. The Red Devils could therefore look to add some suitable replacements up front. Lautaro Martinez brings a lot going forward and his movement of the ball could also be a big plus point for the team.
