Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford unhappy with Cristiano Ronaldo over divide

According to BILD journalist Christian Falk (h/t The Express), Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford are supposedly unhappy with Cristiano Ronaldo for creating a potential divide within the Manchester United squad.

It is claimed that Ronaldo has created groups within the Manchester squad, with Diogo Dalot, Fred, Alex Telles and Bruno Fernandes on the same side. Apparently, that has irked Maguire and Rashford as they do not favour divisions within the team.

The English duo is not the only one that shares this opinion as several other unknown teammates also support them regarding this issue. As such, it is stated that a dressing room crisis could unravel, which could potentially lead to damaging splits within the team.

“The English Players like Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford & Co are irritated that Ronaldo wants to lead the dressing room with his own clique. there is a risk of a split in the team.”

What to make of it?

Fans would certainly not want this. Ronaldo has almost a cult-like following but even they would be wise to acknowledge that creating groups within the team is a recipe for potential disaster, especially when some of your other teammates are not on board with it.

At a time when we need unity and cohesion, it would bode well for us if the squad exists as one in the dressing room. It is also interesting to note that the aforementioned players that are supposedly in this ‘clique’ are from Brazil and Portugal, underlining a linguistic and cultural commonality.

There is often going to be better chemistry and understanding between players who come from the same cultural backgrounds but it should not get to a point where others start to feel excluded, especially if you have one of the greatest footballers of all time spearheading it.

Ralf Rangnick needs to get to the bottom of it and nip it in the bud before the situation gets worse in the future. After all, he definitely does not need such issues to drag him down when the focus should be on the sporting side of things. Let’s hope that there would be a solution to this unrest if that is true in the first place.

As for Maguire and Rashford, they are two players who haven’t covered themselves in glory in recent weeks with their performances. Their focus should also shift to helping the team achieve greater things and whatever happens off the pitch should be a secondary concern for them.
