Ralf Rangnick was pleased as Manchester United returned to winning ways vs Brighton
According to the club’s official website, Manchester United manager, Ralf Rangnick has given his verdict on the club’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
It was a far cry from our best performance but goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes saw us clinch all three points in what was a must-win game in the race for a Champions League spot. The Red Devils currently occupy the fourth spot in the Premier League but have played more compared to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Man United had failed to take advantage of their rivals’ slip-ups in recent weeks. Abject second-half performances against Burnley and Southampton have cost us, dear, in recent weeks. Thankfully we took our chances this time around and came away with all the points.
Rangnick was pleased with the result but pointed out that the team had several chances to put the game to bed. In fact, we did not need to wait until the seventh minute of injury time to put the game to bed.
“We should have killed the game off again, much earlier after the red card. We had five, six unbelievable chances to score, but, again, we didn’t.”
The Red Devils boss certainly appears to have learned his lesson from recent setbacks. Man United created several opportunities in the last few games but failed to take their chances, leaving the opposition with an opportunity to hurt us. Despite Brighton going down to ten men, our slender one-point lead gave us but a minor leeway.
“We didn’t and as long as it’s 1-0 and with the experience of the last three games – it’s normal that there is then a little bit of insecurity in the team.”
Rangnick was also full of praise for Ronaldo, who finally ended his goal-scoring drought. The Red Devils boss praised his main man and labelled his performance on the night as the best in the last few weeks.
“I think, in the last weeks, that would be the best performance by him and very, very important for us.”
With key games coming up, Man United will do well to carry the momentum and put on a run of successive wins. As long as we keep our end of the bargain and win matches, a top-four finish remains very much a possibility.
