David de Gea bullish on Manchester United finishing in the top four

According to The Metro, Manchester United superstar, David de Gea has backed the Red Devils to strongly challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils overtook West Ham United to the fourth spot courtesy of a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes gave the Red Devils their first win in three Premier League games.

One man who also impressed on the night was de Gea who. was forced to make an impressive save off Jakub Moder. The Spaniard is well aware of the impact the save had on the match and wasn’t shy to talk about it.

“In that moment it was a big save because we kept a clean sheet.”

Speaking on the club’s chances of finishing in the top four, the Spaniard admits that they are well and truly in the mix for the Champions League spots. He believes the Red Devils have the quality to put up the points on the board.

“There are many teams fighting for the same position and with the quality we have we should win a lot of points.”

Top four is the aim

Securing a top-four finish would be a good end to the season but given the squad at our disposal, it is but a consolation prize. De Gea realizes that and has admitted that the club should be aiming for far more than just Champions League qualification.

“We should be fighting for more things than the top four, but that is the reality.”

Having dropped precious points in our last two games against Burnley and Southampton, the win against Brighton was a welcome result. There is still some way to go, but the Red Devils are well and truly in the mix to secure a top-four finish.

It was a memorable night for De Gea as he overtook the legendary Brian McClair to become Manchester United’s 13th most capped player. It was his 472nd appearance for the Red Devils.

And we cannot put it past him to hit the 500 mark soon. His dependability between the sticks is what has been driving us in recent months and we hope it continues for a long time. The club is also apparently on the lookout to offer him a new deal, but it remains to be seen when or if that happens.
