Nemanja Matic to hold talks with Manchester United amidst interest in world-class midfielder
According to Daily Star, Nemanja Matic is preparing to hold talks with Manchester United regarding his future amidst the claim of the club signing a world-class midfielder. The veteran is not getting any younger and has fallen down the pecking order in recent years.
Matic’s contract with Man United runs until 2023, but they could decide to part ways with the player if a suitable offer is made in the summer transfer window. Red Devils CEO Richard Arnold is eager to bring in a world-class defensive midfielder at the end of this season and that can affect Matic’s playtime.
The Serb has been made aware of Arnold’s plans and wants to hold showdown talks to discuss his future at Old Trafford. With Ralf Rangnick also in line to take up a consultant role after this season, the midfielder has concerns about his time at Carrington moving forward.
End of the road?
The 33-year-old has not played a single minute since he last featured against Brentford late in January. Plus, he has been struggling to get over a shin injury, which has kept him on the sidelines for the last two matches. Matic will miss out on the Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion that will take place later today.
The former Chelsea man has been utilised as a squad player this season even though there were phases where he enjoyed consistent starts in important games. However, he is not playing at the level that he used to in the past and his powers appear to be on the wane.
It is understandable why the new CEO is planning to sign a world-class midfielder looking at the issues we have been dealing with in the middle of the park. The Serbian being past his best is one of them, as we have struggled to maintain control in midfield due to the absence of quality options in the defensive midfielder’s position.

It could be for the best if we part ways with the Red Devils veteran as he is already playing a bit-part role in the squad. If more summer additions are made, it could be the end of the road for him as he has not even garnered 1000 minutes of action so far this season.
As such, we can get why the Serbian star is looking to hold a meeting with the club officials to clear the air about what lies ahead. After all, he can make plans for himself based on the Manchester club’s answer once the talks do take place. It remains to be seen how this situation pans out ahead of the summer transfer window.
