Ralf Rangnick provides injury update on Fred, Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matic ahead of Manchester United vs Brighton
Ralf Rangnick has given the latest injury news on Fred, Edinson Cavani and, Nemanja Matic as Manchester United prepare to face off against Brighton tomorrow. The match will take place at Old Trafford as his team try to gain a foothold over the top four places in the Premier League.
Man United would be eager to put behind their three-match winless run as failure to do so could end up being detrimental to their season. Brighton and Hove Albion are a strong side as they are just seven points off us in the league while having a match in hand.
Speaking in the pre-match presser(h/t Manchester United official website), Rangnick has revealed that the Brazilian will be in contention to feature tomorrow. However, he has stated that Cavani and Matic are still out with a groin issue and a shin problem, respectively.
“Fred will be available again. He’ll also be part of the group for tomorrow. Edinson is still out, the same with Nema.”
The 63-year-old coach also gave an update on the situation of Alex Telles, who was in the matchday squad against Southampton. He was an unused sub on the day as he had just recovered from Covid-19, just like the Red Devils midfielder for the match tomorrow.
“The rest is, well, Alex [Telles] is back again in the squad and already was part of the group for the Southampton game and he will also be available.”
Must win game
Anything less than three points would be a failure despite Graham Potter’s side posing a strong challenge to us. Nonetheless, we cannot accept a defeat or even a draw as we would further lose ground in our efforts to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The key to success is already in the palm of our hands, but it is only a matter of sustaining it during long periods. Our first-half performances have been in sharp contrast to that in the final 45 minutes recently. We played some of our best football in the opening phase but the players could not afford to switch off once again after half-time.

The return of the 28-year-old Brazilian would be a major boost as there have been large gaps between attack and defence of late. While the problem is down to the lack of cohesion during pressing, Fred can negate that to an extent with his work effort despite having shortcomings in other areas.
Matic and Cavani would be missed, even though they do not have as much prominence as they used to in the past. As for Telles, it remains to be seen if the German manager would find him ready to start or not as Covid is bound to affect one’s body.
