Manchester United enter transfer race to sign RB Leipzig superstar Christopher Nkunku amidst Liverpool interest
According to ESPN, Manchester United have entered the race to get the services of RB Leipzig superstar Christopher Nkunku amidst interest from Liverpool for a future transfer. He has been tearing the Bundesliga up with his performances this term, even if his team has struggled to maintain their form from last season.
Man United have shortlisted Nkunku as one of their summer targets after receiving recommendations from Ralf Rangnick. As a result, their scouts have been asked to focus more on assessing his profile. He is tied down at Red Bull Arena until 2024, which means he will have 2 more seasons at the German club once this campaign ends.
Oliver Mintzlaff, Leipzig’s global head of football, was adamant that they would keep the 24-year-old past this summer. That could pose a major threat to the Red Devils if they have plans to sign him. Moreover, the interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal would add to the list of obstacles alongside Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Man Utd to sign Nkunku?
The Frenchman primarily plays as an attacking midfielder while excelling to the same extent on both wings. He can also play as a second striker or a centre-forward if the situation asks for it. Considering our requirement for depth in midfield and attack, we could be shooting down more than two birds with one stone if we sign Nkunku.
The Bundesliga superstar has ramped up his progression after leaving Paris Saint-Germain and could become one of the best in his position, or positions, in the future. His 19 goals and 13 assists this season from 31 matches across all competitions is sure to get the European big boys out of their seats and take note.
The Leipzig ace’s influence is not limited to goal involvements as he actively takes part in the team’s build-up, chance creation and the defensive third as well. Finding a player of his quality who is adept at playing in so many positions is not very easy, and this is one signing we must do everything to complete.
Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba could leave as free agents after the current campaign, whereas Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial’s future is uncertain. Cristiano Ronaldo has not been at his best recently and just turned 37 this month, whereas Marcus Rashford has failed to recapture his form from last season.
The French star could be what we need to address those shortcomings to an extent, with just one signing taking such issues and potential future setbacks into consideration. The German club’s stance would definitely be a problem, so it will need to be seen how our board will tackle that aspect.

Just 24, he has a lot of footballing years left in him and a player of his calibre may just be what we need to usher in a new era at the club. Rangnick is only managing us in an interim capacity as of now, and it remains to be seen if our interest in Nkunku remains once the club announces who our permanent manager will be- whenever that is.
