Transfer News: Manchester United to double contract offer made to Ronald Araujo by Barcelona
According to the Spanish news outlet Sport, Manchester United are ready to double the contract offer made to Ronald Araujo by Barcelona for a potential transfer in the future. He dropped a sensational performance again and even got on the scoresheet in the previous game against Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
Araujo is in line to enter the final year of his current contract at Camp Nou at the end of the 2021-22 campaign. That has prompted Barca to start negotiations for a new deal, and both parties are on good terms with each other. However, the Spanish club does face heavy competition from the Premier League in an attempt to keep hold of him.
Chelsea have also shown an interest in getting the services of the 22-year-old just like Man United. Both of them are willing to double the renewal terms proposed by the Catalans to extend his current deal with them. Mateu Alemany, the sporting director, has realised the danger and is constantly in discussion with the player’s camp even if there is no rush for it.
Opportunity for Man Utd?
The Uruguayan would be a great signing for us if we can finalise a transfer in the summer transfer window. He is one of the rising superstars in the Blaugrana side and has excelled despite their struggles in defence at times. Even at a young age, there have been times when he has carried the backline showcasing his leadership abilities.
We lack someone of that stature in our squad, and the La Liga ace would instantly boost our defence at this instant. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones need to be moved out, eventually, paving the way for a centre-back addition. Moreover, the Barca star could start ahead of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire in our team.
For these reasons, getting the Uruguay international’s signature would go a long way in our attempt to rebuild the team. There are some concerns regarding our interest following the latest update from the very reliable Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo. He stated that the defender has passed on the chance to move to Old Trafford as he wants to become a success at his current club.

It is claimed that a contract renewal is close to being finalised, which is a damning blow to the Red Devils. The current offer on the table would tie the Blaugrana defender until 2027, although there are still terms that need to be agreed upon. He knows about the improved contract offers from England but wants to stay with the Spanish side.
Time will tell what lies in store for us, although we may have to look elsewhere if the latest piece of information is to be believed. However, it would not hurt to see us keep tabs on the situation in case the negotiations break down in the future.
