David Moyes reiterates West Ham United stance on Manchester United transfer target Declan Rice
West Ham United manager David Moyes has sent a message to Manchester United surrounding the potential transfer of Declan Rice in the future. He has revealed his side’s firm stance regarding this issue while handing a verdict to all the interested parties ahead of next summer.
Rice is contracted with the Hammers until 2024, handing them the major cards when it comes to negotiations. Man United are keen on bolstering their midfield, having identified it as a priority in the summer transfer window. Rice is identified as a potential transfer target, having earned many plaudits for his consistent performances for the Hammers.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Manchester Evening News), Moyes confirmed West Ham’s decision on the future of the Englishman despite interest from elsewhere. He was adamant that the holding midfielder would cost more than £100million in transfer fees.
“I think I have said everything I have to say about Declan from that point. We have spoken enough about him, he is a really important player for West Ham someone we value greatly, and you can see what he means to the team. He’s a really good individual and we’re enjoying having him. Well, yeah [Rice worth more than £100m].”
Right choice?
The Manchester United board have been told what it would take for them to secure the services of the 23-year-old. The Hammers’ stance has not changed regarding the valuation, and it is unlikely that they will change tact anytime soon. One could argue that given Rice’s performances, there is little reason for them to do so.
It seems that there is no room for negotiations since they have reiterated their decision once again ahead of the summer transfer window. The England international would undoubtedly boost our midfield and add dynamic presence in the middle of the pitch. But whether Man United are willing to break the bank to get their man remains to be seen.

After all, our need for midfielders is not limited to just one addition. Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard could leave having less than six months in their current deal at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, it is still uncertain whether Donny van de Beek has a future with us long term or not.
Moreover, Nemanja Matic needs to be replaced since he is well past his prime. Fred and Scott McTominay have their own issues on the ball, showcasing how better players are needed. The board has to carefully assess the risk in their pursuit of the Hammers ace as the financial commitment may prevent us from targeting other targets. Let’s wait and see how this situation plays out over the next few months.
