Manchester United battling major European clubs for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry
According to Sky Germany (h/t Metro), Manchester United will take on some of the major European clubs in the race for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry. He is arguably the best winger in their squad at the moment and could be on the move next summer.
Gnabry has been engaged in contract negotiations with Bayern for quite some time, with no progress made so far. Both parties are at a stand-off at this stage, alerting other clubs across Europe to the situation. As things stand, Gnabry and Bayern are well apart in terms of their monetary demands.
The 26-year-old wants a salary package that is reflective of his performances on the pitch. He is keen to earn along the same lines as Leroy Sane, one of Bayern’s top earners. This does not sit well with the Bayern hierarchy and there is a growing concern that he could leave them at the end of this season.
Despite the differences, the German star prefers to stay with Die Roten in the long term. However, that has not stopped clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool from monitoring the situation. All of them, just like Man United, could target the 26-year-old next summer if an extension is not agreed upon.
Potential opportunity?
The Bundesliga superstar will enter the final year of his current deal at the end of this campaign. Hence, we could see a situation where Die Roten could be forced to part ways with him next summer. After all, they could lose him for a free transfer if he decides to see out his final year at the Allianz Arena.
While a forward is not a priority for us at this moment, we should make the most of the opportunity that the situation presents us with. Gnabry has played 153 matches in total for the German side, scoring 59 goals and making 37 assists throughout his time in Munich. A pacy presence on the wing, he would be an excellent addition to most top European sides.

Even if the midfield should be our priority, we could see a situation where we would be forced to sign a winger. Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard are in line to become free agents and could leave at the end of the current campaign. Anthony Martial is out on loan at Sevilla, and his future with us is still uncertain.
Cristiano Ronaldo is not at his best anymore and needs to take a reduced role moving forward. That calls for additions to the forward line, which is where the German attacker could come in. However, we have a long way to go before a move is finalised. Let’s wait and see the outcome of the negotiations ahead of the summer transfer window.
