Ralf Rangnick issues injury update on Manchester United duo Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes
Speaking in a post-match interview with MUTV’s Stewart Gardner (h/t Manchester United official website), Ralf Rangnick has provided the latest injury update on Manchester United duo Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes following the embarrassing loss to Middlesbrough. His side was on the receiving end of an FA Cup upset, having lost the tie on a penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 after extra time.
Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernades combined to score the opener in the 25th minute giving Man United the lead in an excellent first-half performance. The latter fed the winger with a brilliant lobbed pass which was eventually fired past Joe Lumley into the far corner. The duo continued to combine several times with great effect but was often found lacking when it came to the end result.
Unfortunately, it was not enough and the Red Devils’ profligacy cost them dearly in the end. To add insult to injury, both players appeared to have picked up knocks on the night. Speaking on the matter, Rangnick admitted that he is hopeful that both players will be available for Man United’s next game.
“Jadon didn’t get a knock. He was just feeling tired. Bruno had a knock on his back but could play through the whole game. Hopefully, for Tuesday, we will have all of those players available again.”
Some relief
It is good to know that Sancho’s injury is not serious. The youngster appears to be coming into some good form and having him sidelined could have ruined his momentum. Fernandes, on the other hand, is a bit of a concern as we still are in the dark about the degree of his setback. He carried on despite the knock and even scored in the penalty shootout, a sign that there might be little to worry about.
More so, the German boss also appeared optimistic about the situation and the Portuguese international will hopefully shake off any discomfort. It remains to be seen how this situation would develop in the build-up to the match against Burnley in the Premier League on Tuesday.

The Manchester duo was good overall throughout the game despite the embarrassing loss at the hands of Boro. Both players also created numerous chances for others that eventually went begging. It augurs well for us going forward.
With a top-four finish and the UEFA Champions League still to play for, Man United cannot afford to dawdle on their FA Cup exit. Brooding over the fact that we came up short will do us no favours. Onwards and onto the next match.
