Manchester United fans are livid as the Red Devils bow out of FA Cup thanks to a loss to Middlesbrough
Manchester United’s underwhelming season took yet another poor turn when they exited the FA Cup on penalties against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils went into the game as favourites against lower league opposition and as expected had plenty of chances to bury the game. Ralf Rangnick played a full-strength XI but familiar issues once again came to the fore.
Jadon Sancho opened the scoring for the home side with a well-taken effort in the 25th minute. The Red Devils could have been out of sight by halftime but saw Cristiano Ronaldo miss a penalty and two strikes come off the woodwork.
Failing to take their chances came back to bite the Red Devils as boyhood Man United fan Matt Crooks scored a controversial goal in the 64th minute to draw the visitors level. Rangnick’s men were unable to restore their lead in regulation time and the game went to penalties.
The lottery favoured Middlesbrough as Anthony Elanga’s miss in sudden death handed the visitors a famous win. While we can complain about the handball in the leadup to their equaliser or even throw stats to show our domination of the game, it does not take away from the fact that we were humbled at home by a lower league side.
Man United certainly had enough opportunities to be out of sight but failed to take them. We can blame nobody out ourselves for the defeat. This now leaves the Red Devils with just the UEFA Champions League to fight for. If our lack of cutting edge was anything to go by, it is a tall task indeed.
We now look at how fans reacted to the loss on Twitter.

Can we all agree we don't support Manchester United as a club anymore? We simply support the badge.

The club is filled with people I don't like, and people I have no interest in. I don't support that.
I simply love the badge, and so do the majority of our fans.#GlazersOut
