Transfer News: Manchester United take a stance on Tahith Chong loan stint
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have decided on the future of Tahith Chong following his injury-ridden loan spell at Birmingham City. The winger is currently out on the sidelines due to a thigh injury that he suffered way back on October 23.
Chong had a great start to his loan spell at Birmingham, but an unfortunate injury played spoilsport, forcing him onto the sidelines. He had since undergone surgery and is currently recovering at Carrington. While the Dutchman has returned to individual training, he will still be out of contention for three weeks.
Man United have since taken the decision that they will not cut short the Dutchman’s loan and allow him to return to Birmingham after regaining full fitness. He would be eager to get back into shape, having expressed his quality early in his time with the Championship side. He is currently engaged in training with the ball but is still a while away before returning to team training sessions.
Wise choice?
The Manchester club have taken a good decision in this situation as letting the 22-year-old return to a place where he enjoyed early success is just what is needed at the moment. He had made 13 appearances for the Championship side, making three assists in the meantime.
The Red Devils loanee was a crucial player for the Blues and he quickly established himself as a regular in the team. A return after rehabilitation would be perfect for him as it would ease him into regular playtime. There is little to suggest that Chong will not deliver on the initial promise he showed at St Andrew’s.
The Dutch attacker is in the last five months of his current deal at Old Trafford but Man United have the option to extend it by another year. Even if there is pressure to prove his worth to the parent club, he has to take it slow to prevent the occurrence of an injury relapse.

Had we recalled the Man United star from his loan spell, he might not have enjoyed regular minutes despite the departure of Anthony Martial. With Jesse Lingard staying put and the rise of Anthony Elanga, there is fierce competition for places in the Man United attack.
For all these reasons, the club has chosen the right path regarding the Dutch ace’s future at this moment. Let’s wait and see how quickly he returns from injury and whether he will continue to shine in blue.
