Transfer News: Manchester United to get transfer update on Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly
According to transfer news on Italian media outlet Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Manchester United are in line to receive an update on the future of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window. He was a target for them in the past and could be in line to move elsewhere depending on the outcome.
Koulibaly will enter the final year of his current contract at Naples next summer, which has prompted the Serie A club to take this stance. They will decide on the next step at the end of the season to prevent a repeat of what happened with Lorenzo Insigne, who will join MLS side Toronto FC on a free transfer.
The Senegalese still plays a major role for his side, which is why they do not want to lose out on another one of their top stars. It remains to be seen whether Man United would rekindle their interest or not in the future. However, if an agreement cannot be reached, the defender will be sold ahead of the next campaign.
Should we get him?
The 30-year-old still plays at a top-level and has been crucial for his side’s challenge for the Serie A title so far. He has contributed to them being second in the league and are in contention to win the Europa League. He has played 19 matches this season across all competitions and has earned ten clean sheets while scoring and assisting twice in the process.
The Serie A superstar has been immense for his national side, having helped them reach the final of the African Cup of Nations so far. The central defender has not shown any signs of decline despite entering his thirties, indicating that he could be valuable should we sign him.
Phil Jones and Eric Bailly need to be moved out as we cannot regularly count on their services. The Senegal international would be a great choice to replace them and could even have a genuine chance of instantly starting for us. He could be a great prospect next summer if an extension is not signed in the coming months.

It is still unknown whether we would reignite our interest in the Gli Azzurri ace or not ahead of the summer transfer window. But if he cannot reach common ground with the Italian club, we should have a look since he would be a massive upgrade on some of our centre-backs. Only time will tell how this situation will pan out in the coming months.
