Fabrizio Romano reveals that Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo has agreed to join Rangers on a loan transfer in January
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, talented Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo is set for a six-month loan away from Old Trafford for the second half of the season.
The Ivory Coast international is one of the finest young players at the club and has impressed when given an opportunity in the first team. He has so far made nine appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring and assisting one apiece.
Diallo’s chances of gaining more playtime received a blow when the Red Devils signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho last summer. The 19-year-old has made one solitary appearance for the Red Devils this season, in the UEFA Champions League clash against BSC Young Boys.
Diallo looks to have played his last game for the club this season and is now close to joining Scottish Champions Rangers on a six-month loan. The defending Scottish champions are currently top of the league and hold a four-point lead over arch-rivals Celtic.
Diallo to Scotland?
The arrival of Diallo should give them fresh impetus for defending their title. An energetic player who has his own bag of tricks, the Ivory Coast international would be helped in his development courtesy of playing fairly regularly at the Ibrox.
One might argue that sending Diallo out on loan was always the plan. After all, he was close to joining Eredivisie side Feyenoord Rotterdam on a temporary arrangement last summer before an injury saw it fall through. Six months on, he has had better luck.
The proposed loan move is a straight switch that includes no clause for Rangers to purchase the player in the summer. That is to be expected given that Diallo is amongst our top young talents. The aim of sending him out on loan has to be the chance to garner regular game time, something that will aid him in his development.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has already given his blessings to the youngster and it appears to be just a matter of time before the deal is concluded. Hopefully, Diallo will return to Old Trafford a better player, bristling with confidence.

Diallo has the trait to develop into a leading player who can impress at Old Trafford for years to come. Having shown that he can challenge at the senior level, it makes little sense for him to spend time with the club’s reserve and youth sides. With senior playing time hard to come by, it makes perfect sense to send him on loan.
Hopefully, it proves to be an inspired decision and the Ivorian will return to Old Trafford a much more complete player. Just 19, he still has a long way to go before he enters the prime years of his career.
