Donny van de Beek Club Career

Donny van de Beek started his football journey with the local club Veensche Boys. His father was a former player of that club. In 2014, he signed a three-year contract with Ajax youth academy. The Dutch midfielder was first deployed in the Ajax-d team. However, he made his way upwards through the ranks and soon got into the A1 team. 

The United star was soon picked by Jong Ajax (the Ajax reserve team) and made his debut against Sparta Rotterdam in January. The 24-year-old got the chance to feature for the senior side In November 2015 when he played against Celtic in the UEFA Europa League. Van de Beek soon made his league debut and got his first goal against Molde FK. 

Van de Beek enjoyed a good spell in the 2016/17 season when then-manager Peter Bosz gave him several chances to showcase his qualities. However, he was still in the development phase of his career and spent time with the reserve team. 

Van de Beek got his big break in the 2017/18 season. The former Ajax star scored in both legs against Nice in the Champions League qualifiers. The Dutch midfielder scored a hat trick on 18th November against NAC Breda. The United star went on to feature 34 times.

van de Beek became a key player for the squad in the 2018/19 season. The Dutch midfielder featured in almost every match and played a crucial role in Ajax’s league triumph. However, the prolific moment of his Ajax career came against Juventus when he scored in the second leg of the Champions league to eliminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s team. The 24-year-old also found the net against Tottenham in the semi-final first leg. However, Spurs made a comeback in the second league and ended Ajax’s dream of winning the UCL. 

His incredible performances attracted Manchester United to pay £35 million-plus £5 million in add-ons to secure his signature. However, upon arrival, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær didn’t give him many chances and the Dutch midfielder mostly spent time on the bench. The 24-year-old is yet to cement his place in the United team. However, new manager Ralf Rangnick’s inclusion could become the turning point for his career.

Donny van de Beek was involved in the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship with the Netherland U17 team. They went on to secure a runners-up place in the competition. 

Van de Beek got his senior team debut On 14 November 2017 against Romania in a friendly match. On 14 October 2020, the Dutch midfielder scored his first goal against Italy in the UEFA Nations League. 

Van de Beek was pushed out of the Euro 2020 squad due to injury reasons. The Dutch FA revealed that he couldn’t recover in time which resulted in his complete withdrawal from the tournament.
