Manchester United battle unnamed UCL club for signing 49-year-old Rangnick replacement

Mauricio Pochettino is also in the fray for the Manchester United job.

Manchester United could be rivalled for the appointment of PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino as permanent manager next season

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Manchester United may face competition in appointing PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager.

The Red Devils have had a shocker of a season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a poor start to the campaign, which led to his sacking in November. Ralf Rangnick was soon hired as the interim boss, but the German manager has not been the greatest appointment.

He is likely to take up a consultancy post from next season. He could put his name in the hat to be appointed as a permanent boss, but another man that is expected to be in the running is PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentinian could consider a return to England once his job at the French capital is over. He currently has a year left on his deal at the Parc des Princes, but Man United could appoint him as their permanent boss in the summer, although they are yet to open talks with him.

But they could now face competition from an unnamed Champions League club, who are assessing their options for the end of the campaign in case any managerial changes occur.

Pochettino to be the next Man United manager?

The PSG head coach is on course to win the Ligue 1 title this season and could compete for the Champions League crown too. But irrespective of if he achieves those goals, Man United need to hire him in the summer.

The Argentinian is an experienced coach and managed Tottenham Hotspur incredibly well for five and a half seasons. He promotes the youth into the team and works well with big money and under a budget.

But one thing that the 49-year-old always guarantees is attractive football. There is a proper balance between his side’s defensive and attacking prowess. His man-management skills could also help him handle our big squad boasting world-class talent.

If another club is keen on his services, then we need to get an agreement sorted out as soon as possible. Rangnick has not proved his worth to take over as the permanent boss, and Pochettino’s ideas and philosophies could be the push we need to compete for the biggest trophies again.
