West Ham United name ridiculous transfer fee for Manchester United target Declan Rice
According to talkSPORT (h/t ESPN), West Ham United has named an outrageous transfer fee for Declan Rice, who is a target for Manchester United. He has been sensational over the past few years and has become one of the best deep-lying midfielders in the English top flight.
West Ham have named a valuation of £200million for the services of Rice which could give us an idea of what their intentions are. This new asking price is double that of what was previously claimed, which could suggest that the Hammers intend for it to act as a deterrent against interested parties.
Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the situation and this new price tag could put a dent in their chances of signing the Englishman. If the Hammers maintain a firm stance, the chances of any club meeting their asking price are far lower in number and arguably non-existent.
Rice to Man Utd- no chance?
The 23-year-old is tied down at the London Stadium until 2024. More so, West Ham have the option to extend his contract until 2025. As such, David Moyes’ side are at a clear advantage and have full control over Rice’s future. Unless Man United are willing to comfortably break the British transfer record, a move for Rice appears to be out of the question.
The England international would undoubtedly boost the quality of our midfield and he could also be the solution to solving the instability in the middle of the pitch. He has grown a lot in the past few years and has become a key player for both club and country, earning him many plaudits in the process.
But we should not go down this route despite the quality that the Hammers star would bring into our squad, he is not the only world-class player available in that position. There are other cheaper alternatives who can meet our needs. So the board should not waste their time pursuing Rice as we will need to pay through our noses to land him.

That’s not all, as we can use that money to bring in multiple targets in different areas of the pitch. Our transfer business over the past few years has been questionable and, at times, borderline stupid. The mismanagement under the Glazers has played a part in our decline and they should rectify their mistakes, starting with recruitment.
Ralf Rangnick, at his previous affiliations like the Red Bull group and Hoffenheim, has made such an impact that they have risen to the top thanks to a long term strategic vision. It is well past high time that Man United also do the same.
