Ed Woodward regrets failure to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane for Manchester United
According to ESPN, Ed Woodward regrets his failure to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane for Manchester United. That is one of his biggest disappointments when he was in the role of the executive vice-chairman at Old Trafford.
Kane has always been considered as the priority target for Man United if they ever had a chance to prise him away from Tottenham. But Daniel Levy has always been at the top of things, having given extensions at important intervals to fight off interest from major clubs.
The Englishman was convinced to sign a six-year deal in 2018, which enabled Levy to denyManchester City last summer. The former still has uncertainty surrounding his future at N17 despite the arrival of Antonio Conte. Man United could be in the market for a striker next summer and there bare few better than Kane in that category.
Missed opportunity?
If there is any chance for us to sign the England captain, then we must attain Champions League qualification for next season. Without a top-four finish, it would be an uphill challenge to convince any top player to join us. Not to mention, if Spurs achieve that with the help of Conte, he could probably decide to extend his stay with them.
The prospect of signing the 28-year-old would have been great over the past few years, but Woodward’s stance also highlights the issues with the previous board. For too long has the club failed to seize the initiative and land their top targets.
Perhaps, this way best highlighted the previous summer, when we brought in Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, and the team has performed worse compared to last season. That is because we failed to solve the issues which were noticeable in the squad.

The Red Devils have to make a fresh start from here on and be reasonable and logical with their approaches, unlike it was in the past decade or so. That is one of the major reasons why we declined massively and are a shadow of the team that we were under the great Sir Alex Ferguson.
With Ralf Rangnick set to take on a consultant role at the end of this campaign, we must take the right step from here on if the ambitions are to return to being among the top. A long term plan that is supplemented by going all out to land the right players at the right time would certainly help.
