Manchester United end their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland
According to Daily Star, Manchester United have decided to exit the transfer race for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland as he has chosen Real Madrid as his future destination. It is bad news for the Red Devils who looks et to miss out on what looks to be a generational talent.
Haaland has chosen Real as his next club, and they have been preparing to sign him over the last six months. Florentino Perez wants to unite him and Kylian Mbappe at the Santiago Bernabeu next season and take advantage of the financial difficulties that have been plaguing Barcelona. Perez wants to build another super team to conquer Europe and Spain, and the duo is the foundation of his plans.
Man United were interested in getting the 21-year-old but, they have accepted that he is bound to join Madrid next summer. Manchester City were another club that had kept tabs on him after Pep Guardiola identified him as the long term replacement for Sergio Aguero. He was the priority target for them at the end of this season, but this update has spoiled their plans as well.
Tough pill to swallow
Seeing the club lose out on a promising player is always tough but, the effect is twofold considering how the Norweigian has the quality to single-handedly uplift a team. There is not much we can do if he has already decided on his next step, and it is understandable why the club have backtracked due to that exact reason.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani do not have many years left in their playing career and, the void left by their departure could have been compensated by the Dortmund star had we signed him ahead of next term. But all is not lost as we have solid options like Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and the academy starlet Anthony Elanga to help us in the future.
We have been linked with River Plate striker Julian Alvarez, and we could end up signing him as we have turned our attention away from the Bundesliga superstar. However, there is a long way to go before we can finalise a transfer but, it is always good to know that there are other options in our list of potential targets.

That’s not all, as the priority must always be to solve the issues in our squad plus, there are sufficient options in our frontline at the moment. The Manchester club have to address the lack of balance in the midfield, meaning we would have lost valuable time trying to pursue the Dortmund attacker when he has already made up his mind.
The Norway international would have cost us £68million when his release clause activates at the end of this season. That is cheap for a man of his quality, but we could save that amount and focus on midfield where we actually need additions. Smart signings are the way to go, even if it means we lost out on players like him in the future.
