Ralf Rangnick does not believe he has enough time to solve the current issues at Manchester United
According to Sports Mail, Ralf Rangnick believes he does not have the time to solve the current problems at Manchester United due to his status as an interim manager.
There have been quite a few issues at Old Trafford in the past two weeks. The German gaffer was appointed at the end of November, and he guided them to two straight league victories. Since then, we have witnessed an unconvincing draw against Newcastle United, a mixed performance in the victory against Burnley, and a horrid defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The morale is thought to be down in the squad and apparently, cliques have formed amongst members of the senior team. However, Rangnick does not believe he has the time to influence these troubles. His status as an interim boss makes it less likely for players to buy into his ideas than that of a permanent manager.
The squad are also unconvinced by the coaching staff of Chris Armas and Ewan Sharp. But Rangnick has identified a ‘selfish element’ in the dressing room who are reluctant to play for the team despite the issues. This was identified by Jose Mourinho, too, during his tenure and these problems persisted under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well.
Man United would also be happy to sell some stars, but their high salaries are proving to be an obstacle. Anthony Martial, in particular, could join Sevilla, but his £210k-per-week wage bill is holding up a potential deal.
Problems across the board
It has only been a month since the former Red Bull sporting director took charge of the helm. He has only now come to realise the underlying problems at the club. Most players of the team have been around for a long time, and they now need to be held accountable.
Solskjaer was a great man-manager and, thus, these problems did not come up as often. However, a coach like Rangnick, who might perhaps prefer dealing in tactics more than egos was always bound to have a problem with this dressing room.
The ‘player power’ issue at Old Trafford is a serious cause for concern now. Clubs like Chelsea, Man City, and Liverpool have gained ground on us in the last 10 years due to the problems across the board since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Placing the blame on Rangnick is not going to get us anywhere. These problems could continue under a permanent manager too until the troublemakers are held responsible or are offloaded. No player is bigger than the club, and the supposed ‘selfish’ locker room needs to get their act straight. The Top 4 race is still on the line, as are our Champions League ambitions. It is high time we start performing.
