PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino awaiting a phone call from Manchester United to be made next manager
According to The Sun, PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is awaiting an official call from Manchester United to become their new manager.
The Red Devils closed the lid on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, following a disastrous start to the current campaign. Michael Carrick took over as caretaker before Ralf Rangnick was appointed on an interim basis. However, things have taken a turn for the worse under him.
The German manager has not been able to produce a ‘new manager bounce.’ It is also hard to see how recent performances could ensure a place in the Top 4. Regardless, there is likely to be a new manager at the helm in the summer and plans are already plotted. Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently employed by French giants PSG, is one of the names linked to the club.
The ex-Tottenham Hotspur has considerable experience of managing in the Premier League. In fact, it is now claimed that he is only awaiting an official invitation from Man United to become their new manager. The call is ‘almost certainly to come’, and it is also expected to be accepted by the Argentinian.
Pochettino at the wheel?
The dressing room may not be at its happiest under Rangnick, but the gaffer needs to find some solution for the current issues. It is essential to finish in the Top 4 and then appoint a modern-day manager that can fulfil our ambitions. Pochettino certainly lives up to the billing, given his experience in the league with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.
There will be arguments about a lack of silverware but he did achieve quite a lot with Spurs, quite notably by taking them to the Champions League final in 2019. The 49-year-old is also currently at one of the top clubs in Europe and is managing stars of the ilk of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, and Kylian Mbappe.
Thus, he has the coaching tactics to back him up, as well as the experience of dealing with big stars. He has often promoted the youth into the first team and has an eye-catching brand of football. Our squad could be well suited to his strengths and vice-versa.

However, a lot could change in six months. If Pochettino has a calamitous second half of the season with PSG, Man United could rethink his potential appointment. Thus, there are some factors to consider before making such a decision, and only time will tell if the Argentinian ever receives a call from the hierarchy to take over the hot-seat at Old Trafford.
