Manchester United players handed two-day off by Ralf Rangnick despite suffering defeat to Wolves on Monday night
According to the Mirror, Ralf Rangnick has handed Manchester United players two days off despite recently losing to Wolves at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been struggling in recent weeks, and it was epitomized by the recent defeat to the Midlands club. There was a lack of identity, desire, and hunger to win the game. Neither the players nor the manager shrouded themselves in glory following that performance.
It also led to Luke Shaw claiming after the game that perhaps all the players ‘were not there together.’ Pundits also led the charge to question whether Man United can turn things around from here.
Despite all of this, Ralf Rangnick has handed a two-day off to the players. Although it is apparently fairly standard since the next game is on Monday, it remains to be seen how much of it will actually help in regaining some form.
Unnecessary holiday?
The feeling amongst the fans has been clear after there were loud jeers and boos following the Monday night disaster. It was the performance that was more appalling than the result in itself. Several players looked clueless about their duties and responsibilities with and without the ball.
Moreover, handing a two-day rest at such a key time makes little sense. The players have engaged in three games in the space of a week, and while there has been little rotation, Rangnick needs to spend as much time as possible on the training ground.
At this point, every training session needs to work on a specific style of play rather than working towards the next fixture. Once an identity is established, the performances shall follow, as will the results hopefully.

Rangnick is here to stay, and he needs to make that clear to the players. He may only be an interim manager, but there are certain targets for the season. The two-day off could alternatively also work in our favour, but it is perhaps best to do so once we have things on track rather than handing it during the current chaos.
Then again, we don’t want the players to be overworked. But no one would want it to be intense training sessions if they were to occur. Hopefully, the players can sit at home, analyse where they were at fault against Wolves, and come back stronger for the fixtures that lie ahead.
