Manchester United ready to pay cash plus Anthony Martial for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele
According to the Spanish news outlet Sport [Print Edition] (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are open to paying cash plus Anthony Martial for the potential transfer of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele. A move could take place this month if all the parties involved would agree to the terms for it to be facilitated.
Man United are willing to sign the 24-year-old if he refuses to sign a new deal with Barca. United are plotting to pay £25million alongside Martial to get his services. The Red Devils star would be joining the Catalans on a loan deal for the rest of the season on a free agreement.
The Blaugrana club is desperate to move Dembele off their wage bill, which could prompt them to entertain this offer. He will see his contract expire at the end of the current campaign, which means he could leave as a free agent next summer. The 26-year-old, on the other hand, has already expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford in search of more minutes.
Injury-prone Ousmane Dembele to Man United?
First things first, it does not make sense for any club to pay that amount when the La Liga ace would be available for free at the end of this term. If he does not renew his deal at Camp Nou, teams would be able to save a fortune on him and it would be surprising to see why Man United jump the gun to pay a big fee.
Our recent loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers shows how the midfield is the area that needs to be addressed the most within our squad. In such a case, it would not make sense for us to spend such a large sum for a player who is currently in the last six months of his contract, and where we already have several players ready for first-team action.
As if there weren’t already enough hurdles in young Amad Diallo and Mason Greenwood’s way at Old Trafford. Dembele also hasn’t had a good time with injuries in Barcelona and a repeat of that here would mean a near-complete waste of finances.

The news should be taken with a pinch of salt until there is reliable confirmation on the matter from either the clubs or the player. Signing the Frenchman is an exciting prospect for sure but, the terms specified above seem tilted against us. It remains to be seen if the club does hold a strong interest to pursue such an offer, or if it is just something done by a specific party to generate interest for meeting their respective needs as a marketing ploy.
Thus, all risks, pros and cons should be assessed well by the club before we pursue any deal for the former Borussia Dortmund winger.
