Fabrizio Romano reveals loan fees and add-ons of Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe loan to Napoli

According to the transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United would earn a decent sum in the form of loan fees and add-ons for loaning Axel Tuanzebe to Napoli. The Italian side will enjoy his services but does not have the option to buy him permanently in the agreement.

Man United will earn €600k in guaranteed loan fees while an additional €400k would be in the bag if the Serie A side qualifies for the UEFA Champions League. United have also included a clause where they would earn €200k in add-ons if Tuanzebe plays a certain number of games for them.

The 24-year-old got recalled from Aston Villa, where he was previously on loan after falling down the pecking order under Steven Gerrard. He was on his third temporary spell at Villa when it was decided to be prematurely cut short for the benefit of all parties.

Good business?

It is good to see that the club has taken quick action by finding a solution in a matter of days. It would not have helped us if the Englishman continued to be sidelined by Gerrard. As such, the move to Italy would help him gain valuable minutes, which could turn him into a solid defensive option for the future.

The loan would continue to help us keep the defender off the wage bill while simultaneously earning a decent fee in the process. Who knows, maybe he could replicate what other Englishmen such as Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori have achieved by joining Serie A from the Premier League, albeit on permanent deals to AS Roma and AC Milan respectively.

Keeping the English centre-back at Old Trafford would have been another option, but it would not be the right choice if we cannot guarantee consistent minutes. Some could argue how he should have been given a chance looking at how defensive issues coupled with injury troubles have plagued us throughout this season.

It remains to be seen whether we would earn the add-ons as well in the coming months as the Red Devils star would be well into his loan period by then. We would hope for a best-case scenario where we could earn the maximum possible amount while the United ace could grow as a player moving forward.

More Manchester United News

Gli Azzurri are currently third in the Italian top division, and if they keep this trajectory for the rest of the season, we would make a neat little earning just in time for the summer window. They could also qualify for the CL by winning the Europa League but for that, they would have to go through Barcelona in the knockout rounds next.

Having made his PL debut for United in the 2015/16 season, the versatile defender has only gone on to muster 10 PL starts for us since then. It also remains to be seen how he is utilized in Roma- if he is to join them- and whether he plays as a centre-back or a defensive right-back.
