Transfer News: Manchester United unlikely to let Jesse Lingard join West Ham

West Ham United remain interested in Manchester United star Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard to West Ham United in doubt as Manchester United are hesitant on January transfer

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are unlikely to allow West Ham United to get the services of Jesse Lingard in the January transfer window. He is expected to leave Old Trafford this month or at the end of this summer, having failed to earn enough minutes this season.

Lingard has entered the final six months of his current deal and has no interest in penning an extension. West Ham would be happy to get him as he was crucial for them to achieve Europa League qualification for this season. He had an excellent time with the Hammers when he was on loan in London in the second half of last term.

The 29-year-old wants to leave this month, but Man United may not allow him to join up with David Moyes as it could potentially hamper their chances of a top-four finish. They would rather want him to move to Newcastle United, who have shown interest in a potential loan move for the player.

United need to achieve Champions League qualification not just to help with the finances but also to assist in acquiring Declan Rice. Their chances of signing him next summer could take a hit if the England international replicates the form he had shown during his last spell at London Stadium and help West Ham qualify for the UCL at the expense of his parent club.

Good decision?

Moyes’ team has cooled down in December, comparing their recent performances to how they played before that period. As such, it would not be wise to lend the ex-United boss a hand and boost their squad by letting the Englishman join them. Lingard joining Newcastle, in that regard, is a much safer option.

It would, however, be an ideal scenario if the Red Devils attacker’s transfer helps us to get Rice in the future. Whether Moyes’ team would let that happen or not remains to be seen as we get through the rest of the days in this month. We would be wise to hold a strong stance on this transfer deal and not budge if we are not benefited from it.

We have the depth to make up for Lingard’s absence but the recent Covid outbreak at Carrington in December only showed how uncertain things are this season. Depth is the name of the game and would matter in the second half of the season as well.

Time will tell how this situation will develop in the coming days, and we hope that the board will take a wise decision regarding the matter. It does seem like Lingard’s time at Old Trafford has run its course, and we can’t blame if he seeks pastures new, granted he has been starved for minutes under Ralf Rangnick so far.
