Ralf Rangnick reveals what Donny van de Beek needs to do to receive Manchester United opportunities
Speaking to the press (h/t official Man United website), Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has given his verdict on what Donny van de Beek needs to do to get more opportunities in the side.
The Dutchman has endured a difficult year and a half since moving to Old Trafford from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2020. A largely forgotten figure under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has enjoyed the same joy under Ralf Rangnick.
With chances difficult to come by, there has been speculation that Van de Beek will leave the club in January. A popular player with the supporters, the Man United boss has now revealed what the player needs to do to stake a claim for regular playtime.
“Just work hard.”
Rangnick goes on to add that the player does put in the effort in training. He confessed that van de Beek will find opportunities to impress. He has already had a conversation with the player regarding his playing time.
“There will be games where he will get his chance to play, I am sure. I also had a long conversation with him last week about that.”
With the World Cup set to take place this year, Van de Beek has intentions of representing the Netherlands in the competition. The chances of him making the cut are remote unless he receives regular playtime in the coming few months. Rangnick recognizes that but whether it will be enough for him to incorporate the Dutchman into the first XI is debatable.
Rangnick also admits that Man United should keep the player at the club until the end of the season. Keeping him will certainly give the Red Devils enough depth but whether the player will also be keen to play ball sans regular playtime remains to be seen.
‘We should keep him, and he should stay here, definitely until the end of this season and try to get as much game time as he possibly can.”

Van de Beek is among Man United’s more mobile midfielders and brings something different to the table. Hopefully, he will get several chances to impress and show off his excellent abilities. With Paul Pogba’s contract running out and Nemanja Matic not getting any younger, Van de Beek could yet have a future at the Theatre of Dreams.
It would also be a big boost for him to hear that the gaffer wants him at the club beyond the winter window. He clearly did not have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s trust when it came to featuring regularly in games but who knows, things could be different under the German boss.
