Kevin Campbell believes Mauricio Pochettino would be a good fit for Manchester United as their manager
According to Football Insider (h/t The Express), former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes that Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino would be an excellent candidate to take over as Manchester United boss.
The Argentine was one of the names linked with a move to Old Trafford last year. The Red Devils, however, chose to go with Ralf Rangnick as an interim manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.
With the search for a permanent boss set to resume next summer, it is not outside the scope to expect Pochettino’s name to do the rounds once again. The Argentine is, in fact, regarded as the top candidate to take over at the end of the current season.
The PSG boss is familiar with the Premier League having enjoyed a good spell in charge of Tottenham Hotspur. Under him, Spurs established themselves as Champions League regulars and even made it to the final of the 2019 edition.
Pochettino has now shown at PSG that he can manage a top side with huge resources well. The Parisians look set to win Ligue 1 this season, making it the Argentine manager’s maiden league title. Campbell believes Man United’s search has been geared towards eventually hiring Pochettino.
“I think it’s been geared towards Pochettino this whole time.”
He has backed the 49-year-old to rally the troops at Old Trafford and forge a successful partnership for years to come. Pochettino certainly has excellent credentials, but doing a job at Man United is not everyone’s piece of cake.
“Just the way he can get the whole club together and really galvanise the whole place, it’d do Man United the world of good.”
Campbell also goes on to extol Pochettinos’ track record of developing youth. Man United have several talented youngsters coming through the ranks and having the right man who can develop them is a priority.
“There might well be better managers out there, but there’s none better than Pochettino in terms of bringing through the kids and getting the best out of them. I think he’s tailor-made for United.”
Just 49, Pochettino has age on his hands to build a dynasty at Man United. While the Argentine has his strengths, he has also been found tactically wanting at times. Despite success at PSG, his stay at the Parc des Princes has been far from rosy.

To call him tailor-made for the Red Devils would be a stretch. However, provided he can adapt, there is no reason why the Argentine could go on to enjoy a successful second inning in the Premier League.
At Tottenham, it often seemed like a team with just a couple of superstars such as Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris. At United, ‘Poch’ will have world-class players at his disposal and it would not be the worst call hiring him for the long term. While there may be better candidates for the job than him, we could also do worse than the Paris Saint-Germain manager.
