Ralf Rangnick claims he is yet to speak to Manchester United hierarchy about signing players in January

Speaking after the game, as quoted by the club’s official websiteRalf Rangnick claimed that he is yet to talk to the Manchester United hierarchy about signing players in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils ended 2021 on a good note by defeating Burnley 3-1 at Old Trafford. However, the focus is now going to shift to the January transfer window. Rangnick may have churned as much as he could out of the current lot till now, but he could eye mid-season reinforcements.

Moreover, the focus could also be on outgoings. Edinson Cavani has been linked with a move to Barcelona. Anthony Martial has also informed of his intentions to leave, while Donny van de Beek is also leading a largely uncertain future.

Rangnick, however, claimed that he is yet to talk to the Man United hierarchy about signing players in the January transfer window.

“My focus is on the current players. As I said, we have enough players in the squad, and there is no lack [in terms] of the number of players. Transfers in the winter window only make sense if they really help you and increase the quality. So far, we haven’t spoken about that. My focus in the last couple of weeks was on the current squad.”

Need to start focusing on January signings

It is a fair response from the gaffer. His appointment coincided with our need to gain ground in the Top 4 race, courtesy of which the German boss might have placed emphasis on understanding the squad initially. However, it is time he starts chalking up plans for the January transfer window.

The midfield is one area we certainly need to strengthen. Paul Pogba remains out with an injury and could leave as a free agent in the summer. Nemanja Matic is ageing and shall be in the final year of his contract at the end of the campaign. As mentioned before, there is huge uncertainty over the future of Van de Beek.

Thus, it is no surprise that Man United have been linked with Amadou Haidara and Boubacar Kamara. Both midfielders have excelled at their respective clubs and are of a good age profile. Moreover, they would arguably be an upgrade on some of the players at Old Trafford.

Additions to the frontline and the defence should be made after a careful assessment of the squads, not to mention the possibility of some outgoings. Rangnick needs to start adding quality players to our star-studded squad as we look to secure a Top 4 finish in the Premier League and make our mark in the UEFA Champions League.

We have a number of top-tier talents in our frontline and it cannot be understated how we can benefit from signing a quality number 6.
