Transfer News: La Liga club submit offer to sign Manchester United star on loan

Sevilla submit offer to sign Manchester United star Anthony Martial on a loan deal in January

According to Sky Sports, Sevilla have submitted an offer to Manchester United to sign Anthony Martial on a loan deal in January.

The 25-year-old star has been lacking game-time at Old Trafford. The centre-forward had an incredible 2019/20 campaign but ended last season on an inconsistent note coupled with an injury. Although he returned at the start of the current season, he was not afforded regular minutes.

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho have led to restricted game-time for some stars, including Martial. His agent revealed at the start of this month that the player wants to leave in January, with Sevilla thought to be his preferred destination.

However, Ralf Rangnick countered the argument by stating that they shall allow him to leave only if it suits the interests of the club before stating that they are yet to receive an offer for his services. Sevilla have now submitted a loan offer to sign the French international in January without an option or obligation to buy him in the summer.

Martial to leave Man Utd next month?

2021 is coming to an end, as is the Man United career of Martial- or so it seems. That is something which now depends on the player himself. If he agrees to leave temporarily, then he must prove his worth there. The Frenchman arrived from AS Monaco more than half a decade ago but has failed to impress supporters on a consistent basis. And now, an exit could be on the cards, with Sevilla also willing to sign him.

However, Man United need to think long and hard about this deal. Firstly, letting him leave could shorten the attacking talent in our squad. We are competing for a spot in the Top 4 and also have ambitions to be successful in the Champions League. Thus, if one of our key attackers get injured, we might not have the option of fielding the 25-year-old anymore.

Alternatively, if the hierarchy is confident of parting ways with the centre-forward, a loan deal without an option or obligation to buy is not that encouraging. This would still mean that the striker shall return to the Theatre of Dreams six months later. It would be a temporary solution but one that would require solving once again in the summer.

Thus, Rangnick needs to carry out an evaluation of the squad before making a decision on the future of Martial. His inconsistencies are a bane but losing a member of the frontline mid-season could turn into our doom towards the business end of the campaign. Hence, only time will tell whether Man United entertain the apparent loan offer from Sevilla.

For Martial himself, this move may not be a bad thing. It can provide him with a pedestal to prove he hasn’t lost his mojo while also keeping him in the running for the France squad travelling to Qatar next year.
