“Future will be bright”- 24-year-old Man United target addresses transfer links ahead of January window

Transfer Update: Wolves ace Ruben Neves has downplayed talk of a move amidst interest from Manchester United

Speaking to Portuguese newspaper ‘Record’, as quoted by The MirrorRuben Neves has claimed that he is focusing on his job at Wolves despite transfer interest from Manchester United.

The 24-year-old has arguably been one of the best players at the Molineux this season. Bruno Lage did not have the best of starts to the campaign but his side has excelled in the past three months. However, a lot of it has had to do with Neves.

The Portuguese international was a vital player under Nuno Espirito Santo and is continuing to become one under the new management. He is dictating play and providing ample protection to the backline, and these performances have now caught the eye of several clubs, including Man United.

However, the player addressed those links recently and stated that he is currently focusing on his job at the Midlands club.

“It is normal in football. Whenever there is a transfer market, there is a lot of talk. But my goal and focus are on Wolverhampton. I’m not going to change that. Things have been going really well for me. I still have a lot to learn; I have a lot to give here.

“The future will be seen soon. I like to live in the present, and I am happy. I feel great in Wolverhampton, and I will focus here because if I do things right, I am sure the future will be bright.”

Neves to Man United?

Neves was always unlikely to address talks of a potential move in the coming transfer window considering the diplomacy professional footballers usually showcase in the media. What he says in front of the camera could differ from his personal desires. He will complete five years at the Molineux at the end of the current campaign.

He has perhaps done everything he could, but it could be time for him to play at the very top of the sport. Man United may not have won a league title in nearly a decade but could become a force under a proper and established manager. However, one of the few things that have been holding us back is a quality midfield line.

Paul Pogba has blown hot and cold in recent seasons and could leave as a free agent in the summer. Nemanja Matic has 18 months on his contract and shall turn 34 next year. Scott McTominay and Fred have produced inconsistent performances for a while.

Thus, adding Neves to the fold could bring about identity to our midfield since he could be that vital link between the defence and the attack. For the former Porto midfielder, this would also be an opportunity to compete for a trophy rather than for a spot in the top half of the table. Hence, he may have downplayed the links for now, but it remains to be seen what he does if Man United present an attractive offer to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams.

Our fans would certainly hope that we launch an offensive in that regard. With Pogba’s future uncertain and ‘McFred’ not showcasing enough to be a world-class midfield pairing, there may not be many better players to bring in at Old Trafford than a 24-year-old Portugal international who has proven himself in English football.
