Sevilla director have been tracking Manchester United forward Anthony Martial for a long time
According to ESPN journalist Julien Laurens (h/t HITC), the Sevilla sporting director, Monchi has been following Manchester United forward Anthony Martial since his teenage days.
Anthony Martial has been a fallen star at Manchester United. The then-teenage prodigy made headlines when he signed for United in 2015. He also gave good performances until the 2019/20 season. However, the French star couldn’t hold his consistency and fell from the pecking order under axed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Even after the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, the situation hasn’t improved for him.
In a recent press conference, the Interim manager revealed that Martial has already communicated his intention of leaving the club in January. The former Leipzig manager added that they haven’t received any interest for the French star at this moment.
However, the current transfer market rumours suggest otherwise. The 26-year-old forward has been linked with a move to Newcastle in recent times. Sky Sports revealed that the Red Devils forward has made Sevilla his preferred destination.
French journalist Julien Laurens has only intensified the links. He suggested that Sevilla sporting director Monchi is a long time admirer of Martial, and the French star could benefit from such a deal.
“It’s interesting because Monchi clearly knows him well from a long, long time ago at Lyon, even before going to Monaco. I think he’s been following him for many, many years now. This is typically the type of signing Sevilla and Monchi are good at – relaunching the career of somebody who’s very, very talented.”
It seems Martial’s exit is nothing but inevitable at this moment. Even though the move could be the right approach for both parties, Ralf Rangnick would lose a forward option in the squad. The coronavirus has already hampered life at Premier League, and thus, losing Martial could cause problems later on.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been the talisman this season and has enjoyed an excellent goalscoring run. However, other United forwards haven’t been quite successful this season. Marcus Rashford is struggling for consistency, and Jadon Sancho still needs time to adapt to the English setting. Therefore, United need to find viable forward options in the market.
