Bayer Leverkusen director hopeful of keeping Florian Wirtz amid Manchester United interest
According to German daily Bild (h/t Insidefutbol), Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller is confident of keeping Florian Wirtz for a few more years amid strong interest from Manchester United.
Leverkusen sensational Florian Wirtz has become one of the key players for his childhood club. The teenager is wreaking havoc in the German league with eight goals and 11 assists in 21 appearances. Regularly termed as the next ‘Kai Havertz’, the 18-year-old is becoming a star at Bundesliga.
The awe-inspiring performances have put Florian on the radar of some elite European clubs. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool are all the big names linked with the teenager recently. However, Leverkusen have clarified their stance regarding the academy sensation in the coming transfer windows.
Bayer Leverkusen sporting director revealed that they have no intentions to sell a player who has a contract until 2026. Rudi Voller also added that the club have created a strong relationship with the player and his family over the years. a
“Not only because of the contractual situation – also because of the trust we have built in him and his family, we know that he will be in good hands here for a few more years.”
The sporting director also suggested that someday Florian’s statue will become so big that the Bundesliga club wouldn’t be enough for the starlet, and they have to release him just like Kai Havertz.
However, the state hasn’t arrived at this point, and Voller is confident of keeping his academy graduate for an extended period. The director also added that Florian has similar intentions regarding his future.
“[My] wish is that Florian will stay with us for a few more years. That is important for us and for the whole of the Bundesliga. And I think it’s his plan too.”
The injury of Paul Pogba decreased the amount of creative presence in the midfield. Bruno Fernandes is there, but still, there is a lack of decisive passes towards Cristiano Ronaldo and co. at the frontline. Donny van de Beek is struggling for consistency, and Jesse Lingard has fallen from the pecking order this season.

Therefore the arrival of Florian would provide a significant boost to the United midfield. The teenager also has experience playing in the flank and central forward position, which would provide Ralf Rangnick with better options when picking the starting lineup amid a busy schedule.
