Transfer Update: Manchester United receive boost as Bayern Munich drop hint regarding Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland
Speaking to Süddeutsche Zeitung via a tweet by Fabrizio Romano, as quoted by Express, Bayern Munich director Oliver Kahn has hinted that they may not be actively pursuing Borussia Dortmund star and Manchester United transfer target Erling Haaland, with Robert Lewandowski continuing his goal-scoring form.
The Bundesliga goal machine has been widely touted for a move away from Dortmund, with his £66million release clause likely to activate in the summer. In the last two years, he has scored 76 goals in 75 games for the Signal Iduna Park outfit and has attracted interest from a host of clubs. Man United, PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich have placed him on their radar.
It was recently claimed that Ralf Rangnick held private talks with the player’s representatives amidst a potential move. Thus, Man United remain an interested party in securing the striker’s signature, despite the recent change in management.
However, insiders also revealed that Haaland might be angling for a move to Bayern Munich in the summer. But that might not be the case as Bayern director Oliver Kahn recently indicated that they shall continue to trust Robert Lewandowski in the centre-forward role. It remains to be seen if this cools their interest in the Dortmund man, but Man United would be alerted by the situation.
Bayern director Oliver Kahn when asked about Erling Haaland as target for the summer: “We have Robert Lewandowski. He’s still going to score 30-40 goals for a few more years”, he told @SZ. 🔴 #FCBayern pic.twitter.com/u4ah8eybL2

Project Haaland
The Norwegian international is currently one of the hottest properties in world football. His dazzling performances in the Champions League and Bundesliga have been nothing short of brilliant, and he is bound to benefit any club he joins in the summer.
Man United must, thus, fight to land his signature. We might have a lot of attacking talent, but few of them have the potential of the 21-year-old Dortmund star. Mason Greenwood has flourished on the right, while Marcus Rashford has played better coming inside from the left.
Anthony Martial is a viable alternative but has already agreed to a deal in principle to join Sevilla in January, according to TuttomercatoWeb (h/t The Express). Edinson Cavani shall also be out of contract this summer while Cristiano Ronaldo will turn 37 in February. He may be ageing like fine wine but might not be able to produce heroics season after season.

Rangnick found success at RB Leipzig by attracting the world’s top youngsters and developing them into top-level players. Haaland might already be the latter, but Man United could give him the stage to produce astronomical numbers. He could take the torch from Ronaldo when the Portuguese international retires and become our talisman for the next decade.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a direct link with his fellow countryman, as he coached him during his time at Molde. But it seems like Ole’s sacking hasn’t put us out of a potential transfer race. That comes as exciting news for us because Haaland is the sort of a player that can bring in trophies to a club with his lethality up front.
