Hannibal Mejbri and Christian Eriksen of Manchester United feature in Denmark vs Tunisia stalemate

Manchester United star Christian Eriksen started for Denmark, while Hannibal Mejbri came on as a substitute for Tunisia in the World Cup fixture that ended 0-0. The two midfielders, 30 and 19, went head to head at the Education City Stadium on Tuesday (22 November).

Some fans have high expectations from the Red and Whites after their semi-final run in Euro 2020. However, they did not look at their best against the Carthage Eagles in the first half.

The second half saw the introduction of the Red Devils’ loanee Mejbri. The youngster, who is currently associated with Birmingham City, came on in the 80th minute for Tunisia, replacing Youssef Msakni.

It was the 19-year-old’s World Cup debut and the Old Trafford side expressed their happiness on their official Twitter handle. He became only the second teenager ever to represent the African nation at the prestigious tournament.

The second 45 also saw Denmark grow into the game. They created a few chances to score and Andreas Cornelius failed to hit the target from a yard out in the 70th minute.

Eriksen was also handed the captain’s armband after Simon Kjaer’s substitution at around the hour mark. There was a late VAR check for a penalty against Tunisia, but the referee decided not to award a spot-kick for a handball.

While the fixture ended in a stalemate, it was an entertaining watch with both teams going at it. And for United fans, Eriksen and Mejbri’s appearances were a bonus. This was also the first 0-0 draw of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Danish national has been an essential player for the Red Devils in the current campaign. On the other hand, the Tunisian youngster is getting regular game time at Birmingham, which is important for his development.
