Transfer Update: Manchester United are keen on Jules Kounde but are yet to submit an offer to Sevilla
According to Diario de Sevilla (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United are yet to translate their transfer interest in Sevilla star Jules Kounde into a formalised offer.
The Red Devils added world-class stars to the squad at the start of the season. However, it does not look like they are done with their business as they are eager on landing the signature of Sevilla ace Jules Kounde.
The 23-year-old has been brilliant for the Spanish club, based in Spain’s Andalusia territory, in the past two years and played a vital role in helping them win the UEFA Europa League in 2020. Chelsea tried to seal a deal for him this summṣer but failed to match the La Liga club’s valuation.
This has opened up the race, and Man United are interested in him but are yet to table a bid. There have also been talks of a swap deal since Anthony Martial is plotting out a loan move to Sevilla in January.
Unwanted hesitancy
If the last four months have taught the club anything, it is that we need to bring in quality centre-backs. Harry Maguire has shown glimpses of inconsistency this season despite being a regular in the starting XI when he is fit. Raphael Varane has been good when he has played but has been injured for the majority of his short Man United career.
Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are good options but neither has done enough to warrant a regular starting spot as of now and have also had issues with fitness in the past. Signing Kounde would allow Ralf Rangnick or any future Man United manager to partner him with Varane since the pair already link up for Les Bleus on international duty.
Moreover, it would be a smart move if we could orchestrate a swap deal for Martial and Kounde. The striker has been far from his old self in the past two years and is apparently keen on securing a move away from Old Trafford.

Thus, there is little to hesitate over a move for the French international. He is still very young, has played at the top level for a reasonable amount of time and could help us out considerably in the coming seasons. John Murtough did a great job by landing Cristiano Ronaldo, Varane, and Jadon Sancho to sign in the summer, but it is now time to shift the resources towards signing Kounde.
Sure, a defensive midfielder could also help our squad considering we are light in that department. But if a young, able, and talented centre-back such as Kounde is on the market, we should try to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams ahead of his potential suitors.
