Transfer Update: AC Milan join Manchester United in the chase of Marseille star Boubacar Kamara

According to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), AC Milan are interested in sealing a transfer for Marseille ace Boubacar Kamara in January amidst transfer interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils are plotting out transfer plans for the winter transfer window. It has been less than a month since Rangnick took charge of his first game but he has already brought about a distinctive style of football to the club. The midfield, however, needs rejuvenation.

Fred and Scott McTominay have been good in recent games but could burn out if played constantly. Nemanja Matic is ageing and shall be out of contract in 2023. Paul Pogba could also leave as a free agent in the coming summer.

Thus, a holding midfielder is being targeted, with Boubacar Kamara a prime target. The Marseille ace has been good for the French club in recent seasons, and they are apparently ready to listen to offers in January. However, AC Milan have now joined the race to sign the player, with the Italian outfit looking to replace the exit-bound Franck Kessie.

Could Kamara change our midfield fortunes?

Since 2019, there have been no midfield additions. McTominay and Fred have been quite inconsistent over the last couple of years, and both could be upgraded upon. Their work rate is impressive but sometimes, they can fail to gain control of the game when the team is ahead.

Kamara could change a lot of that. Only 22, he can learn on the job and become one of the best in the business if played to his strengths. Moreover, another addition to the midfield might not hurt, especially since Pogba and Matic could be out of the club in 18 months.

However, AC Milan’s interest in the Marseille star is a matter of concern. The French international might join the club that hands him increased game-time and the prospect of competing for big trophies. The San Siro club are yet to become a force in Europe again but are title contenders for the Serie A trophy.

In fact, with Kessie likely to leave, there would be a place to fill in their midfield instantly. It remains to be seen if United can promise a starting spot to any incoming midfielder straightaway, at least until this summer. Donny van de Beek is also vying for minutes. Regardless, we do have a more exciting project on our hands and with Milan’s inconsistency in the past decade, the Red Devils are a more stable big team for a player to join.
