Transfer Update: Boubacar Kamara at crossroads with Marseille over new contract amidst Manchester United interest
According to transfer news on L’Equipe (h/t The Sun), Boubacar Kamara has rejected a massive contract at Marseille amidst interest from Manchester United.
The French talent has been producing dazzling performances for the Ligue 1 outfit in the past couple of seasons. All in all, he has racked up nearly 150 appearances for the club, but the player could be heading for the exit door, with Man United interested in signing him.
The Red Devils have now received a boost in landing the midfielder. The 22-year-old’s contract talks with Marseille are starting to heat up after he recently rejected a deal that would have made him the highest earner at the club. In fact, the French club also wants him to change his representatives, as they did for fellow midfielder Valentin Rongier.
After their recent defeat in the Europa League to Galatasaray, the club also asked Kamara to address the media about his contract situation, but he refused to do so. Thus, talks have stalled, but Marseille president Pablo Longoria is hopeful that the player signs a new deal soon.
Is Kamara on his way to Man United?
The Frenchman has been one of the best players in Ligue 1 this term, and he has been a crucial reason behind Marseille being 3rd on the league table halfway through the season. Thus, it bodes well for us that he is likely to become our first signing in January, as per FourFourTwo (h/t Wales Online).
Kamara is an able defensive midfielder who can also slot in central defence when needed. This kind of versatility bodes well for us considering our injury issues at the back earlier this season, especially with Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder at the Orange Velodrome and serves as a reliable base for the frontmen to attack freely.
Moreover, Paul Pogba will be eligible to agree to a pre-contract in January as he only has a little over six months on his new deal. Nemanja Matic shall also enter the final year of his contract next summer. Donny van de Beek is also primed to move in the winter transfer window. None of this is guaranteed so far but the mere possibility of it happening would raise concerns.
Our current midfield line could, thus, certainly use some quality reinforcements. Rangnick is looking to bring about an attractive brand of football at Old Trafford, and signing Kamara is a good first step to do so.

However, one would be hoping that he does not sign a new contract at Marseille in the coming days. But the recent tension between him and the French club is pointing towards an exit, and Man United could be on hand to swoop him up soon.
